Delight started off in 1990 – by the guys who run Chaos at South Parade Pier every saturday night.
Originally Uropa, then Route 66, now reborn as ‘Pure’ -was then called ‘Uropa’ – Delight was a brand new night for a brand new club.
The original concept for Delight was to provide a rival student night to the other venues in the City.
For many years Monday’s had been one of THE nights on the students weekly fixtures, but the then manageress didn’t want to try and emulate the other club nights. We had been running CHAOS on Saturday nights at the pier for 7 years and had been getting lots of great feedback and publicity from it, we were approached and then had 4 weeks to prove ourselves.
We knew that the majority of student nights played a fairly poor choice of music and catered to the masses – basically a cheesy, party sets. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
We made it 100% clear from the outset, that wasn’t what we did…if you wanted Abba & Grease mega mixes, then leave now and not bother.
